Instagram vs. Reality: Why the Discovery Page is making you insecure

Health and Wellbeing, Personal

I’ve been feeling like a human potato recently. In other words, I’m feeling pretty insecure. After months of eating a strict diet and exercising religiously, summer is well and truly over and so are all of my holidays (I cry). With no bikini weather to look forward to for a while and hibernation mode in […]

  • TOP TIPS FOR TRACKING 📝 -
It’s not essential to track calories to meet a goal, but it is an efficient use of numbers to drive results. Here are my tips for tracking and remaining flexible / sane at the same time:
-
1. Use an app like @myfitnesspal to track
2. Weigh your food for a week until you get an idea of what a certain amount looks like for your staples. Then don’t take it so seriously. If progress doesn’t happen, revisit the weighing strategy
3. Track each individual ingredient you eat for accuracy. Don’t just track ‘spaghetti bolognese’ on the app - it’s not going to have the same amount of calories as what is on your plate
4. Don’t get so obsessed about tracking non-starchy vegetables (anything green is usually very low calorie) - focus more on the quantity of more calorie dense foods like nut butters, oils, pasta, bread (very palatable foods that we can easily eat in abundance)
5. Don’t deprive yourself of meals out, but go for the ‘healthier’ options that are easier to guess-track (those that consist of lean proteins without extra surprise oils or sugars)
6. Double check data on my fitness pal to make sure it’s correct before tracking - there are a lot of incorrect logs that can make you go over
7. If tracking is in any way negatively impacting your life, find another way to manage your progress
-
Tracking is too much of a ball ache for a lot of people but if you’re not seeing results, it’s a guaranteed way for you to make progress (if you do it correctly and honestly)
